This morning the kids and I were playing on the floor, and Caleb comes up and starts whacking the crap out of me with his little hammer. (Thanks for the tool set, Santa)!!
Immediately "Ouch" popped out of my mouth and he gets this little giggle and twinkle in his eye and does it again. HELLLLO!! Are you KIDDING me?!?! My 15 month old is beating me up!! LOL. So I took it away from him and crawled over to Katherine to help her out with a puzzle. Caleb then decides it's a good idea to come up behind me, lifts up my shirt and blows a raspberry on my back. I turned around and gave him one severe tickling. Of course, he was laughing the whole time and thought it was a total riot! Where does he get this mischievous behavior from??? Is it inherent to all little boys??
Tonight we are headed over to the neighbor's house for a new years eve party. We are incredibly blessed with perhaps the best neighborhood in the entire universe. It's full of kids -- probably 40 of them 6 and under, and a good majority of the moms stay home. There's endless play dates, and tons of stuff to do. Anyway, I personally think that New Years Eve is the most overrated holiday ever. Matt and I stopped pretending that we liked to go to the dance clubs with a bunch of 21 year olds several years ago, and instead spend the night with our kids and friends. What could be better??? With all the chaos that goes on tonight, I can't imagine driving across town with all the drunks on the road when the two most precious things in life are at home sleeping in their beds. There just isn't any upside.
Have a wonderful and safe night tonight. Happy 2007.

Daddy Radar
Caleb must have a sixth sense when it comes to his Daddy!! With Matt safely tucked into bed last night, Caleb was able to sleep through the night. He actually slept for almost 12 hours. Talk about making my day!! A rested mommy is a happy mommy!!
Matt went crazy this morning and decided to clean out the storage room and take the treadmill out for me. ** Oh thanks, honey. I really appreciate all you do!!!!!** LOL!! He claims it was nervous energy before the Alamo bowl. If only the Alamo bowl would come around monthly!! So while he spent the morning tearing apart the basement, Katherine and I took the decorations off the tree. She was such a big help, and we had a great time!! We had to take several breaks to put together her new puzzle, and bond over grilled cheese and diet dr. pepper. I had to leave her for few minutes so that I could put Caleb down for his nap. When I came down the stairs, I heard this quiet chatter. As I peaked around the corner, I saw her sitting on the floor with her baby on her lap reading her a book. I love to watch her be a momma to her babies. She's so tender and loving with them, reading made up stories from her princess book and asking them if they have any questions, while kissing their cheek. I could have stood there forever, watching this little girl that I love so much, share her love... Just watching her brings tears to my eyes. It makes me realize in a very tangible way, that I am a good and caring mother to her and she can pass those same feelings on....
The Alamo Bowl was fantastic! We had a great time, hanging out with our neighbors, watching our kids play and eating yummy food. We didn't expect a win, just hoping for a close game. So when Iowa was up at half, it really turned into a party. Even Katherine was yelling at the tv. Definitely an inherited trait -- and DEFINITELY not from me!!
Caleb has become obsessed with throwing things into the garbage... pieces of paper, food wrappings, and any random thing (including toys) he finds on the floor. He toddles in his little drunken sailor walk over to the cabinet, throws in his most recent find, and then slams the door shut and claps for himself. It's really hilarious. He gets this adorable giggle and twinkle in his eye. However, tonight he threw any toy he could find on the floor at my neighbor's house in the garbage. When I pulled them out, they were covered with food, and smelled more like little smokies than little girl toys... UUUUUGH! Boys can be so mischievous! Is my son turning into a neat freak???
Caleb also LOVES to eat. Tonight he must have really liked the eats because he'd shove handfuls of food in his mouth and yell YUUUUUM and then open his mouth and start doing an Indian war call. Can you picture it??? Little boy, mouth full of food -- wide open, and yelling and pounding his mouth. Boys!!
With New Year's Eve approaching, I've decided not to make any definite resolutions. It's too much pressure, and I'll end up breaking them before February 1 anyway. However, since Matt was *kind* enough to get the treadmill out of storage, I'll try to use it more...
Happy New Year to everyone!!

I spoke too soon....
Just when I thought my little man was ready to sleep through the night, he throws me for a loop!!
Matt was gone last night -- his brother from Texas (and a huge A & M Fan) was visiting and they decided to go out and watch the bowl game with Todd (his other brother that lives here in town) and some friends. Let's just say that it was probably in everyone's best interest that he didn't drive across town..... Anyway, Caleb must have known that his Daddy was gone for the night! He woke up shortly before 5 and decided that it was a fine morning to watch the sun rise. UUUUUUGH! We had the usual Friday morning play date at our house, and by the time it was over, I felt like I had been up for hours -- Oh wait -- I was!
Katherine absolutely LOVES her older cousins, and is thrilled that Madison (she's 10) is spending the night tonight. It's sleepover central here - brownies, movies, and games! That's one big night for a three year old! It's a rare occurrence that she gets to stay up past 11, so she's in heaven!
Tonight was also a night of exciting firsts. We went bowling with Todd, Caroline, Leo, Chris and Madison. Katherine had a blast!! At first she could barely push the ball hard enough to make it all the way down the lane. The ball would roll ever so slowly and she'd cheer it all the to the pins. We finally got smart and followed Leo's lead -- the ramp was a wonderful idea!!! Katherine could put the ball up on this ramp type contraption and push it as hard as she could. Worked like a charm!! Her first game she scored 63 and the second one got a 71!! WHOOOO-HOOOO! I'll upload the pictures soon so that you can see them.
I can't believe I'm going to plug a cleaning product -- this is so unlike me, BUT.....
Matt got me some more All-Clad for my birthday.... For those that are wondering, YES, this is a good gift, AND, NO it's not in the same category as a blender!!! LOL!! Anyway, I took out my new pan to make Christmas morning breakfast, and stained the fry pan so horribly I thought I had ruined it. I scrubbed for over two hours and called my mom in a panic. She told me to use something called Bar Keepers Friend. She had an extra can that she was going to donate to the cause, and I had been meaning to pick it up, but kept forgetting... When Madison, Katherine and I were walking around the mall today, I decided to stop in Williams Sonoma and ask what they'd suggest. Wouldn't you know -- Bar Keepers Friend. I bought it, and wouldn't you know, it worked like a charm in seconds!! I guess the old saying, "Mother knows best" is true! I was then talking to my mother in law, and she uses the same stuff. Why didn't I know about this stuff???? I'm not keeping the secret any longer, this stuff is a miracle and you can use it on ANYTHING!
Tomorrow is the big Alamo bowl. Go Hawks!! We are heading over to one of our neighbor's house for a Iowa party! I'm really looking forward to a relaxing fun afternoon tomorrow -- win or lose!

Taking the plunge
This is it!!
I've finally decided to take the plunge into blog land. It seems like this will be a much easier way to keep up with everyone -- and this way Matt and the kiddos won't have to hear me recant the same story 20 times on the phone! Evidently I analyze everything to death!!
Also -- I'm starting on the weight loss journey. Since Caleb is now 15 months old, I'm finally ready to lose the extra weight!! So to all the girls who are taking this journey with me -- welcome! This will force me to be accountable..... Which is exactly what I need. Matt is taking the treadmill out of storage this weekend -- yes, I did just say out of storage... UUUUUGH! And my exercise ball -- Katherine and Caleb have found it to be a wonderful toy. If only I use it as much as they do!!
Santa brought Katherine this wonderful art easel for Christmas. It has a chalk board on one side and a dry erase on the other side. There's a huge roll of paper on top that you can pull down and paint etc on. Eventually it will go in the scrapbook room with me, but until I make room and reorganize, it's in a nook in the kitchen. Anyway, Katherine was drawing and came running for me --
For those that don't know, PK is short for "princess Katherine"
PK : "Mommy, mommy look what I drew. It's a smiley face".
Me: Oh honey, it's beautiful! You drew such a great picture of...
PK: It's you Mommy
Me: Really?
PK: Yes because you're always smiling and make people happy.
Me: Oh Katherine, you're the best!! (I was LAUGHING at this point)
PK: Mommy, mommy -- don't cry I don't want to change the picture. I don't know how to draw a tear yet....
Boy do I love, love, love that girl. I wish I could bottle up her smallness. She's at such a wonderful age.
Which is another reason why I'm starting this blog -- scrapbooking. My goal is 100 pages for 2007, and I'm hoping this blog will help remember all of the little things that I want to capture or journal in their books that I can't get to that day. My goal is actually higher, but since I don't want to "fail", I'll say 100 pages...
In Caleb news -- He slept through the night for the first time in almost 16 months. (yes, folks, you just read that correctly). So that makes me one happy Momma!! Can you believe I have not slept though the night since he's been born!! OMG that's a long time.
He's also completely in love with Big Bird! What's up with that??? All of the marketing -- and thus the toys -- are targeted toward Elmo. I searched all over for the perfect Big Bird stuffed animal -- and it paid off! He hauls the bright yellow bird every where he goes. He screams "Biiii Biiir" everywhere he goes. As if Big Bird can talk back!!
