I'd be lying if I said that I didn't shed LOTS of tears over the "surface cavity" in Katherine's mouth. I obsessed over it since last Thursday when I found out it existed, and worried that one bad experience would ruin the good thing we had going on with the dentist. Up until Friday she LOVED going....
Her appointment was at 2:00, and it couldn't have gone better if I had scripted it myself. She crawled into the chair a couple of minutes after 2, and was done at 2:12. No Novocaine, no anesthetic, no shots of any kind. Dr. A came in and said a great big hello, gave Katherine a hug and she jumped right into the chair. He asked her to move her head all the way up to the headrest, and her little legs barely touched the back rest. He showed her the drill, tickled her front tooth before inserting the "bit", and then started drilling. I about fainted when he didn't numb her up, but the cavity hadn't penetrated her "tooth" yet... it was still in the enamel. So she didn't feel any pain. THANK GOD. He gave her a mirror so she could watch her mouth turn a neon blue from the heat lamp that they use to quickly harden the filling, and she got a huge kick out that.
I sat back and watched... tears rolling down my face... It was horrible. I would have traded places with her in a second. The guilt from letting my little girl get a cavity was too much. I really felt terrible.
Thankfully it was a great experience. She was done in 12 minutes flat. No shots of any kind, and a ton of stickers and prizes to boot. AAAHHHH, I'm glad it's over.
