Happy May Day everyone! I hope your day is filled with wonderful little surprises...
This morning Katherine's preschool class had a field trip at the Urbandale library. Caleb and I went with them to help chaperone the kids. Everyone had a great time! They started off with story time in the preschool reading room, and then got a "behind the scenes tour". They learned what happened to a book when it was returned to the library and were shown other ares of interest to them -- the kids magazines, the movie section and how to find a specific book. Caleb was in HEAVEN! He loves books and would sit and read for hours, so story time was right up his alley. He clapped and cheered for the librarian to keep reading to him. It was hilarious! And Katherine was so proud of him. She loved the fact that we were along, and she showed off Caleb to anyone who would listen to her. On the tour of the library, we walked past some older guys ("grandpa" age) and she stopped to talk to them and tell them all about her "big brother". They got quite a kick out her. You could just tell that she had made their day. One of the guys told me "thank you -- it was the most he had laughed in quite a while".
When we got home, I went in to make lunch while the kids played in the front yard. They usually chase each other along the front porch or decorate it with sidewalk chalk during the few minutes it takes me to get their lunch ready. All of a sudden I realized it was awfully quiet -- too quiet.... as in complete silence... I panicked and ran outside. There was Caleb was sitting right outside the front door happily munching on May Day baskets -- all 10 or so of them. His face was covered in chocolate and he had popcorn stuck everywhere -- in his hair, on his clothes, even between his toes. What a mess!! But what a happy little boy! Let's just say he filled up on chocolate covered raisins and didn't eat a bite of his lunch -- big surprise there!
Tonight Laurie and I are taking the kids out for dinner -- and if it stays slightly windy, we're going to take them out to fly kites. I think they'll have great time. Matt is spending the night studying -- he leaves Friday for Canada for a week long prep class, so all this weekend and next week it's just the kids and I!!

Same with Max. If there's chocolate around, he'll sniff it out, take it for a ride, and eat it. He's the only dog I know who has survived 5 chocolate incidents in the 3 years we've had him. In fact, like Caleb, if it's too quiet, and you call him, and he comes reeeeeeeally slow with his head down and eyes up, we know immediately he was NOT a good dog.
