Over scheduling...

I need some help here... As parents we all know that over scheduling your children is a bad thing. Kids need time to be kids. They don't need adult pressures and stress. They need tons of free time to explore, be creative, grow and learn. I've heard it all, and although I don't disagree, I'm a firm believer of giving your children a variety of experiences. I take them on tons of "field trips", play dates, enroll them in classes, etc... and to be honest, I think they're better for it. They have been exposed to a variety of situations and experiences that most kids their age have not. For the most part, they know how to act when we're out in public, they are polite, and aware of the world around them... Not to say that chaos doesn't errupt at times! LOL.

With all that said, here's my question... Katherine has preschool on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9 - 11:30. On Monday night she has ballet, tap and tumbling lessons from 5:45 - 7:00. On Tuesday she has Kindermusik starting at 6:30. She has been dissatisfied/disappointed with her tumbling class, so we've talked about dropping that class which would mean that she wouldn't start dance lessons until 6:15 on Monday nights. If we do that, I plan to enroll her in a true gymnastics class. Actually, I signed her up already. After looking into the different programs and time slot availability, I chose Urbandale Dance and Gymnastics. She'll go Thursday mornings from 10 -11 am.

So my question is... When she took all three classes Monday night, it didn't seem like a big deal, (we were already there, she was dressed and ready to go, and the classes were back to back) but if I add Thursday morning into the mix, am I over scheduling her? For the sake of full disclosure, she's THRILLED about going to a gymnastics studio, and can't wait to start. When she heard Matt and I discussing it, and we agreed that she should take gymnastics, she threw her heavy arms around my neck and thanked me a million times. She was genuinely elated.

So, do you think that I'm doing her more harm that good by signing her up for all these classes??? Am I over scheduling her?

Well, the only thing that I'm wondering about is why you are questioning yourself. Do you think maybe you DO think you've over scheduled here? I'd see how it goes. See how she does before worrying about it.
